Five generations of Carriers have run this exquisite hotel complex - a hamlet of traditional Savoyard farms and wooden chalets somewhat bizarrely placed slap-bang in the centre of town. Interiors are equally rustic (think: a forest-load of wood, old-fashioned fireplaces and country-style furnishings), but the futuristic swimming pool is a dream.
Some rooms sport Jacuzzi and Mont Blanc-facing balconies while tea in the company of homemade cake and a roaring fire greets guests returning off the slopes to the main building. Dinner - in the Michelin twin-starred Restaurant Albert 1er (famed for its highly inventive cuisine and seasonal white truffles) or humbler Maison Carrier (which cooks up strictly local Savoyard fare) is a culinary feast to be remembered. Top off the dreamy experience with a day spent slumbering in seaweed or a hot paraffin body wrap, being pummeled with essential oils or exfoliated with black soap in the hamlet's beauty centre.
