Lonely Planet review

Hailed as Chicago's top address (often in the same breath as the Four Seasons), the Peninsula's opulence is best experienced in its bathrooms, where soaking tubs come equipped with a steam-free television, waterproof speaker phone and tubside-controlled mood lighting.

More phones and TVs are sprinkled throughout each room's main area, accompanied by a DVD and CD player, private fax machine and free wired and wireless Internet access. Tasteful furnishings in shades of cream and butterscotch envelop the downy white beds. Room types fall into Superior, the least expensive category; Deluxe, which is the same size as Superior but with a better view; and Grand Deluxe, which has the best views plus increased square footage. The Peninsula sports amenities like a massive, sparkling fitness room, round-the-clock business center, and spa. The glass-enclosed, three-lane lap pool provides Michigan Ave views each time you take a breath. If its glory doesn't make you weep, the chocolate buffet served in the gilded lobby each Friday and Saturday night will.
