The ageless Drake is a regal majesty that has hosted regal majesties such as Queen Elizabeth, among other glitterati, since opening in 1920. The very quiet rooms are built like bank vaults, with heavy old doors and marble baths.

The Drake enjoys a commanding location at the head of Michigan Ave and offers convenient access to Oak St Beach, a short jaunt through the pedestrian tunnel under Lake Shore Dr. In fact, the Drake is really Chicago's undiscovered beach hotel. The lowest-priced rooms are Guest, which are small with restricted views; next up is the bigger Deluxe; it's followed by Deluxe Plus, which adds a lake view; and then Executive, which adds breakfast and lounge access. Prices go up by 20.00+ per category. A fitness facility is on site, but if you'd prefer a treadmill right in your room, just holler and it's yours for 15.00. White glove elegance drips from every chandelier, and the suitably magnificent public places include restaurants and bars that are many notches above the norm. Rooms have wired internet for a fee; public spaces have wi-fi.
