Originally a bathhouse, the lobby of this 100-year-old building abounds with grandeur. A domed ceiling with plaster bas reliefs, a brick archway and marble columns all do a fine job of convincing you that you're in an Italian church rather than a hotel. Unfortunately, that's where the splendour ends.Doubles here are worn, with wicker headboards and rocking chairs that would have Arne Jacøbsen rolling over in his stylish grave. Nevertheless, with the Latin District a pastry's throw away, you aren't likely to spend a lot of time in your room anyway. Dormer windows give some double rooms a little character and roomy deluxe doubles have a small (stove-less) kitchen and a comfortable, well-worn feeling. If you're looking to set up camp for awhile, the self-contained one- and two- bedroom apartments are a little newer; try for one with a terrace. If the hotel gives you a feeling of déja vu, you've probably been out sightseeing; the building's architect, Martin Nyrop, was also responsible for the city hall.

You'll find yourself surrounded by theatres and cinemas if you stay here. Head to Dagmar Teatre if you're after an art flick, or across the square to the brightly painted Palads for mainstream features.
If these walls could talk, they'd tell of the business deals and hot gossip that was established in these baths by the upper class of the early 19th century.
