It looks like a chain. It feels like a chain. It is a chain, right down to the matching polo-shirted staff. Nevertheless, the Scandic offers great facilities and a superb location, joining some of the city's most expensive real estate along the lakefront and just a short walk from the tourist magnet of Tivoli.

You'll have a great view of Sankt Jørgens Sø - but that's what you're paying for. The wooden furnishings are showing their wear and rooms aren't remarkable in their decor, but they're comfortable enough. Suites have seen better days. If you're looking for something a little more unique, head up to the 18th floor where a design team was recently let loose to convert a nightclub into top-notch rooms. It's all wood and leather and soft lighting up there, with a private lift and airy, elegant rooms. The Scandic is very child-friendly and in summer caters mainly to tour groups and families. Winter brings the business crowd.
