Frendz is an Aussie-managed, backpacker-friendly resort down a long, narrow track between the beach and the main road. There's a decent dorm, and well-kept native-style cottages with marble-floored bathrooms. A very casual restaurant, bar and pool table take centre place in this garden compound.

Few places in Boracay offer decent dorm rooms - this is one of them. A clean, compact, fan-cooled cottage has four beds downstairs and four up. There might be a queue for the sole bathroom if the dorm's full, but off-season you're likely to have it to yourself (and rates drop then, too). If you want to upgrade, there are several well-maintained fan or air-con bungalows in the grounds. It's midway between the beach and the road; if this seems like no man's land, remember that it's also quieter, but still easy walking distance to the action.
