Lonely Planet review

This former Intourist monolith finally changed its name from the long-standing Sovietskaya Hotel when it was bought by this fast-growing Russian chain. Of its many, many rooms, there are a slew of different categories, some of which have been nicely modernised. It still caters largely to tour groups who are indifferent to its hideous exterior, which mars the landscape along the otherwise lovely Fontanka River.
