From the welcoming tot of whisky liqueur waiting in your bedroom, to the cheerful goodbye wave from the doorstep, the owners of the Sandaig Guest House know a thing or two about hospitality.

There are plenty of other things that make staying at the Sandaig a pleasure, from the boldly coloured decor that sets it apart from the average Edinburgh guest house, to the crisp cotton sheets, big fluffy bath towels and refreshing power showers. The breakfast menu includes porridge with cream and maple syrup, cheese omelettes and croissants as well as the usual full Scottish fry-up, served in a strikingly decorated dining room that wouldn't look amiss in a boutique hotel. Set in a Victorian terrace house overlooking Leith Links park, the Sandaig is only 10 minutes by bus from Princes St, and a 10-minute walk from the pubs and restaurants of Leith's waterfront.
