Qupqugiaq Inn's tongue-twister of a name is actually quite apt: the hostel/hotel features curved walls, tiled mosaic floors and a funky exterior decorated with driftwood which combine to create a visual tongue-twister.

Anchorage's best value place to stay has a long list of features: a self-serve breakfast that includes roll-your-own-oats and French-press coffee; light wood and soft, colorfully-painted walls; roomy dorm rooms; an excellent selection of private rooms; a warm, sunny sitting areas; a wood deck with weekly barbeques and environmentally-friendly cleaning and laundry supplies. We could go on. The only down side is that it's parked right on a busy road, and is surrounded by asphalt. But the organic curves and comfortable space more than make up for the traffic.
