A truly heartwarming place, this spotless guesthouse with modern décor is part of a nonprofit enterprise that supports a hospital clinic and also provides job opportunities for young people with disabilities. All of the quiet, carpeted rooms have large windows; most have twin beds, though there's one matrimonial double. The wonderful staff can help with everything from making international phone calls to laundry services. Discounts may be available for online reservations. Take a taxi from the city center (US$1).

If you want to give something back to the local community you're travelling through, this budget hostel is well worth going out of your way. Not that there aren't more self-satisfying reasons to stay here, of course. All of the tidy rooms are quite attractive, with wall-to-wall carpeting, woodsy furnishings, 24-hour hot showers and large windows to let the sunshine in. Most have twin beds, although there is one matrimonial double. The guesthouse provides jobs for young people with a disability and the wonderfully helpful staff provide an array of amenities, including Internet access, laundry service and luggage. Rates include continental breakfast. Airport transfers are available.
