Longing to live among millionaires, but the purse strings hold you back? Staying here you have loads of comfort and a posh address at less-than-Uptown prices. In 1923 it cost a million dollars to build the upscale Stoneleigh apartments (can you imagine the price today?). And it's not like things have gotten less expensive in Uptown since then. Thank goodness the Stoneleigh doesn't take advantage. The rates are mid-range, with specials that can dip down into budget territory. Botanical print bedspreads and red-checked upholstery make the traditional four-poster bed rooms downright cheery. No dark and drafty history here. Well, there are a few hidden passageways and rumours of bootlegging during Prohibition when owner Colonel Stewart snuck booze and babes into his Penthouse (now a banquet space you can peek at). The lobby may not be the world's most updated, but it adds to the period feel. Even the 1938 neon 'Stoneleigh Hotel' sign atop the building is a historic landmark.

The Stoneleigh is on a less hectic thoroughfare off the McKinney main street of Uptown, but right across the street is an excellent neighbourhood bar. The Stoneleigh P pub used to be a pharmacy and the soda fountain counter now serves more potent libations.
When the building was constructed it was the tallest in Dallas, and claimed to be the tallest west of the Mississippi.
