Address: 2-5 place de la comedie , Bordeaux 33000, France
Bordeaux has long been renowned for producing among the world's finest wines, but hasn't had a fine flagship hotel to match. That changed in early 2008 with the opening of The Regent Grand Hotel Bordeaux in the city's heart.Bordeaux's premier hotel is now ensconced behind the 1779-built facade of the former Grand Hotel. No expense has been spared in stripping and refitting these seven interconnected buildings and transforming them into an 'urban resort'. Its 150 guest rooms, conceived by French designer Jacques Garcia, are replete with plus carpets, quilted bed heads, tasselled drapes and marble bathrooms. The hotel's deluxe suites incorporate full wet bars for wine tasting, as well as his-and-her bathroom products. Befitting its four-star-luxe rating (France's highest), amenities include everything from a 24-hour shoe shine service to free wi-fi and hi-tech Loewe entertainment systems in all rooms.

If you can drag yourself from the sanctum of your room, within the hotel complex you'll find two brasseries, a gastronomic first-floor restaurant, a glitzy, brightly lit 'fashion avenue' wall to wall with boutiques (Versace et al), and an enormous day spa.
The Grand Hotel building was designed by the same architect as Bordeaux's Grand Théâtre (Victor Louis, of Chartres Cathedral fame), which directly faces the hotel.
