Address: 4 rue montaigne , Cannes 06400, France
Don't be fooled by its unprepossessing exterior: inside, Hôtel Montaigne is a zen-inspired, urban design pad with a soft spot for almond green. The inner courtyard's wooden deck is a dream for breakfast or an evening drink. Its elegance and sophistication make up for being on the wrong side of the station! The lobby area sets the tone for the rest of the hotel: a palette of almond green, chocolate and red plays off the furniture and accessories, with a definite Japanese zen note lingering. Rooms (with air-con, flat screen TV, wi-fi, minibar, hairdryer in the bathroom etc) are sober, with very comfortable beds and a plain decor of pale-wood furniture and stripy beige and brown carpet and curtains. The hotel also has a sauna and fitness room as well as an onsite car park. Wheelchair access is good. And the location really isn't an issue: it takes less than 10 minutes to walk to La Croisette.

The station is only five minutes walk from the hotel and there are regular trains zooming along the coast. Antibes-Juan-les-Pins, with its fine beaches, sea walls and stunning coves, or the red cliffs of the Estérel mountains, make fantastic daytrips.
