Address: Avenue herrenschmidt , Strasbourg 67000, France
Catering mainly to business travellers, the four-star, 243-room Hilton has a very international feel, with gleaming stainless steel lifts and a lobby whose vast expanse of red-brown marble makes an impressive venue for greeting important contacts. The decor is modern and restrained, with nothing that's jarring, amusing or inspiring. As you'd expect in this price range, the rooms are spacious (virtually all are 28 sq metres) and the bathrooms are spotless and sparkling, with a fine collection of tiny shampoo and gel bottles. Room types include 'classic', 'deluxe', with nicer all-wood furniture and a larger desk, and 'executive', which has a desk fit for a CEO and gets you access to the executive lounge, where you can power breakfast. Some rooms offer an oblique view of the European Parliament building, from others you can see the cathedral's spire on the horizon. Seven rooms are outfitted for handicapped guests. There are two in-house restaurants and a themed bar, Le Bugatti, named for the famous sports car built in the southern Alsatian city of Mulhouse.

A bit over 1km east of the Hilton, on both banks of the Ill, stand three of the most important European institutions: the European Parliament building, seat of the 730-member European Parliament; the Council of Europe's Palais de l'Europe; and the Palais des Droits de l'Homme, home of the European Court of Human Rights.
