The Camino Real lies down a steep, gated 1km access road off the Carretera Escénica, directly above its own small, rocky stretch of Playa Pichilingue on the calm bay of Puerto Marqués. Each of the 157 luxuriously appointed rooms has a terrace or balcony looking out on the bay.This is the type of resort you'll never really need to leave: a billowing complex of hotel rooms, pools, restaurants and about 1000 like-minded visitors dead set on getting wasted on margaritas, sitting poolside until they reach that perfect pitch of red. The rooms are more refined than the ones you'll find in the aging hotels of Acapulco Dorado - and the showers put out enough filtered water to drown a hippo in no time flat - but you're definitely a long way from the hub and bub of Old Town. For some, this is what a vacation is about, but those looking to experience 'the real' Acapulco should probably head elsewhere.
