In an unsightly 1970s tower loved and cherished by Lyonnais, The Radisson might well be a ubiquitous hôtel d'affaires full of suits. But it has one extraordinary feature that graces every room in the house - a panoramic view of Lyon.

From street level, cross the lobby and ride the lift up to reception on the 32nd floor. Ignore the out-of-place frescoed scenes of Tuscany decorating the wall and look instead at the circular rows of balconies, inspired by the traboules of Vieux Lyon. No, it's not your imagination; that is a bird singing (visit the aviary on the 36th floor). Rooms are on floors 33 to 39 and sport identical furnishings - white bed linen, beige accessories and an original watercolour of Lyon. But the pièce de résistance is the view filling vast floor-to-ceiling windows on the outer edge of the circular tower. Want to wake up to Fourvière's basilica and mini Eiffel Tower? Then ask for a superior or business room.
