If you have a penchant for bedding down at international-class hotels that run to clockwork and have chic (if somewhat carbon copy) rooms, as well as the usual bundle of comforts found at five-star chains worldwide, then the Taj delivers. This upbeat hotel has 422 rooms and 40 suites, all luxuriously appointed with the more expensive deluxe rooms having added attractions like elegant parquet flooring and sweeping views of either the pool or city. The Taj club rooms are on higher floors so enjoy even more panoramic views. These rooms are particularly well-suited to business travellers. Each includes private check-in facilities, a complimentary bottle of wine, complimentary breakfast, and a valet service. The hotel has a host of good dining options including the Tea House of the August Moon (Chinese), Kafe Fontana (coffee shop) and Masala Art (contemporary Indian). The hotel's pumping nightclub, My Kind of Place, is a perennial favourite among Delhi's expatriate community, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. It's a shame that the staff's icy professionalism can sometimes make you feel more like a number than a name.

For delish (economical) Chinese food in a cosy setting cruise over to Fujiya, located on nearby Malcha Marg. This restaurant is so popular that you may have to wait for a table (there's a first-in-first-served policy). For something cheaper (but not nearly as snug) try New Sikkim House, which tosses up Chinese and (some) Tibetan dishes.
