The seven rooms and suites in this converted 18th-century house are in a stunning contemporary Oaxacan style. They're large, cleverly designed and spacious, and most are set around a beautiful, broad, white-painted pillared patio.Connoisseurs of art and style will feel right at home here. Fine contemporary art and some very original, modern Oaxacan crafts form part of the décor. The beautiful, big bathrooms have all the trimmings including bathrobes and hair dryers. There's a lovely pool in the rear patio, and a small restaurant (open to non-guests only by reservation) for breakfast and dinner in the main one. Massages, a temascal (traditional indigenous purifying steam bath) and on-site cooking classes are among the extras offered to guests. Children under 12 not admitted.

Casa Oaxaca's little in-house restaurant was so popular that they opened another one a couple of blocks away at Constitución 104A. It's one of Oaxaca's handful of top-class fusion restaurants sourcing flavors and ingredients both locally and further afield. Also check out La Biznaga (García Vigil 512), Los Danzantes (Alcalá 403) and La Toscana (5 de Mayo 614, Colonia Jalatlaco).
