Though overshadowed by the massive Jumeirah Beach Residence development on the inland side behind the resort, the Hilton Jumeirah has a generous stretch of beach and nearly all its rooms face the Gulf. Great for families.

While it's only a few years old, this resort of nearly 400 rooms is conservative in comparison with others along the beach-hotel strip. Rooms all have balconies (sea view recommended) and it's the usual Hilton style with the expected amenities, but you'll spend more time getting acquainted with the leisure facilities. There's a wonderful stretch of beach out front and a pool with landscaped gardens. There are kids' activities, menus, a playground and a baby-sitting service. The hotel's best restaurant, BiCE, serves the most authentic Italian in Dubai and after several years still packs in hotel guests and Dubai regulars. While the whole resort is sea-facing, it's hard to ignore the elephant in the room, in the shape of the Jumeirah Beach Residence (a project of multiple high-rise residences) behind the hotel.
