The gardens of the Taj Krishna are where Hyderabad's beautiful people come to have their fashion shows. But they're likely to be upstaged by the lush, artful gardens. In fact, the models may not even be able to outshine the Krishna's lobby, let alone the rooms. The Krishna has the sort of opulence you expect for the price. The lobby resembles a mahal, its columns inlaid with intricate mother-of-pearl work and its fountain gurgling under a silk-draped, recessed ceiling. But the effect isn't stuffy: it's inviting. Plush armchairs in the connected tea parlour and bar hug huge, arched windows overlooking Mughal gardens and fountains. Rooms are warm, bright and sumptuously textured, with colours and surfaces playing off each other. Elegant dark-wood furniture and floors contrast with the fluffy white comforter and piles of taffeta pillows. Bathroom counters of rich, veined marble sit atop unusual wooden cabinets. And Club rooms have 106cm/42in flat-screen TVs and come with such perks as a personal butler. Some upper-storey rooms have excellent views of the city - but even the garden views from the tea lounge will be enough to set your day right.

It's tempting to never leave the grounds of the Krishna - swimming in the pool; drinking one of the tea salon's 150 varieties; listening to a live band in Seasons, the lobby bar; or dancing at its club, T2. If you're itching to get out, though, hit Fusion 9 for a Norwegian salmon dinner.
