Ride the blue tram with white swallows 10 stops from place de la Comédie to Château d'Ô - the leafy residential quarter, named after an 18th-century chateau, that this B&B calls home.

The setting for Le Lis Casa Blanca is, unfortunately, not an historic stone structure with crenulated towers and fairytale princesses, but rather a modern house in the sort of cul-de-sac a Montpellier soap opera could be set in. So if it is a home away from home you're after, the family-run B&B of Cyrile and Sabine might fit the bill. The couple have a trio of rooms in the basement, each opening out onto a tiny interior courtyard pierced by an enormous pineapple-shaped palm tree. Decor is contemporary - the rooms are called Design, Glamour and Zen - with crisp white walls and particularly charming ensuite bathrooms.
