This superluxurious town house is a wonderful example of what happens when traditional and modern combine to great effect. A classical Georgian house has been transformed into a modern boutique hotel, with each room carefully appointed to reflect the best of contemporary design and style, right down to the modern art on the walls and the lift to the upper floors.Take a fancy Georgian townhouse, add a modern twist and you get Dublin's take on the boutique hotel. Sounds simple, right? Georgian houses do make great canvases, but it's really all about the artist, and this particular creation is pretty special indeed. The standard rooms aren't especially big, but they're beautifully appointed with elegant, contemporary furniture, king-size beds draped in Egyptian cotton and fancy bathrooms. The more interesting rooms are the six split-level mezzanine singles and doubles, which have a decent living area on the bottom floor next to a modern bathroom and the bedroom upstairs. Although not a split-level, the one suite is exceptionally spacious. Breakfast - a gourmet rendition of the traditional Irish fry or a more heart friendly continental buffet - is served in the elegant dining room. Sounds stuffy, right? Well, it's anything but: the staff are brilliant but personable, and that, we think, is what makes this place that little bit special.

Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian beauties line the streets in this leafy neighbourhood, and when you're done checking out the houses, pop into Searson's (42-44 Upper Baggot St), a rugby pub, for a swift (or slow) half.
