Expat-run Pan's (named after his wife) has had a makeover but you'll probably find the atmosphere more appealing than the basic but clean rooms. The 'backyard' has everything the backpacker could want - a TV sala with big screen, bar, restaurant and kiddie pool - but not a single Lao the night we drank there.
