Lonely Planet review

You would never guess that the classic Old Town tenement facade, just down the hill from the Festival Fringe office, conceals some of the most desirable serviced apartments in Edinburgh, with decor by Whytock and Reid (interior designers to the aristocracy). There are six two-bedroom flats (each sleeps up to four people) decorated to a high standard, the hallways with boldly patterned wallpapers, the lounges in shades of green, maroon and red. The bedrooms are smart and tasteful, with designer fabrics, firm mattresses, crisp linen and a daily maid service. Pick an apartment at the front of the building and you can look down on the hustle and bustle of the Royal Mile from your windows; those at the rear have views across Old Town rooftops to the spire of the Scott Monument and the clock tower of the Balmoral Hotel. Location could not be better: within easy walking distance of the train station and close to all the main sights. The lowest rates apply from September to June (excluding New Year and rugby weekends), and include free use of the fitness club and spa at the nearby Scotsman Hotel.
