Sakae is Nagoya's nightlife district, but this hotel provides a fine, upscale retreat. The 562-room high-rise Tokyu has earned fans for its large, nicely furnished rooms and doting staff. The experience starts with smiley doormen, a marble lobby and piped-in string music, and you'll be ushered past restaurants and coffee shops that proudly take their inspiration from Europe: Montmartre, Fontana de Trevi and more. Even if the public spaces' mid-80s decor is a tad heavy-handed and the Euro touches a bit twee, you're likely to forget that in the snappy rooms, which have beige fabrics, brown and black accents and clean lines, plus tiny marble tables. Single rooms are barely larger than at other establishments, but doubles and twins are well-proportioned and have extra features such as vanities. The hotel's fitness club is open to staying guests for an extra fee, depending on what equipment you use. Floors 14 to 16 are 'executive floors'; guests here get complimentary breakfast and access to the fitness club.
