Address: Via santa elisabetta , Florence 50122, Italy Show on map
While it may lack the sophistication of some of Florence's other upscale sleeps, this hotel has two outstanding features: it encompasses an 8th-century Byzantine tower, and it opens onto a minute square that manages to be tranquil even in the heart of Florence.A bright, modern (and slightly characterless) hotel - equipped with solid, four-star comforts - has been tacked onto the ancient tower. While the hotel's reception is an elegant mix of medieval brick and plush oriental carpets, the rest of the place is due for a style makeover. In Roman times the site was occupied by baths - you can see vestiges of them in the basement of the tower - although it's now given over to the hotel bar and conference rooms. The best rooms (on the upper floors) have views of the Duomo. If yours lacks such a vista, head up to the rooftop deck for stunning views of Brunelleschi's dome as well as the Palazzo Vecchio.
