One of Frankfurt's newer five-stars, the Metropolitan can't be beaten for location or convenience - guests are even provided with a free city travel pass on arrival. The top-hatted concierge at the door can arrange everything from theatre tickets to chauffeur-driven limos.

The lobby is everything you would expect from an international business hotel - muted marble floors, orchids in vases and deferential, sharp-suited reception staff. The lounge bar is lined with shelves of old books and hung with oil portraits of deceased patricians. Under their gaze, modern-day patricians sink into black leather bucket chairs and tap away discreetly on laptops. The food in the brasserie is rather pedestrian but no doubt a safe choice for a business lunch. There's a sauna and gym (but alas no swimming pool) on the top floor. The bedrooms are well decorated in safe shades of cream and brown, and the high-tech bathrooms sport heated marble floors. The many conference rooms are comfortable without being especially stylish - a good all-round description of the whole hotel.
