Lonely Planet review

This rather splendid town house is entered through a sizable carriageway. The owner is an art restorer who has converted his former gallery into guest rooms. Behind is a garden across a little strip of pond. The standard rooms are modern and gently stylish with little sepia mini-prints of Ghent. But the real draw is the magnificent suite decorated with 1870s period style in the former carriage house. Although colourful with golden netting across the four-poster bed, it stops short of feeling chintzy. The spacious bathroom has a corner bath with Jacuzzi jets. Breakfast is served on the lawn when weather allows. Alternatively there's a mostly modern, purple buffet room given an extra touch of personality by a gilded floral chandelier. At the top of the main house's private section is a sauna that guests can pre-book for an extra charge. The location is relatively central though Rabotstraat itself isn't especially attractive.
