You want central? This is central. Overlooking George Square, the massive Victorian building constructed for the Tobacco Lords is now a top luxury hotel blessed with helpful and attentive staff. It actually used to be three separate residences, one of which housed William Burrell (of the famed southside Burrell Collection).

Rooms that overlook George Sq with their floor to ceiling windows are best, but if you find that a bit noisy (windows do have double-glazing) rooms towards the rear of the hotel are much quieter. Standard rooms are just fine but if you can, it's worth the extra to get a Club room, which has a great sense of space, plush furnishings and renovated ensuites (No 214 is a goodie). A Club room also gets you a bathrobe, mini bar, breakfast and access to the Club Lounge where you can hob-nob with the best of them. A wonderful feature of this hotel is the conservatory overlooking George Sq which serves a great espresso and allows for some seriously voyeuristic people-watching over the city's main pedestrian thoroughfare.
