Lonely Planet review

Opened in late 2004, the Windsor Plaza is a huge place where the real value is in the service, restaurants and facilities rather than the rooms. The location, closer to Cholon (Chinatown) than downtown, is different and the food is exceptional and superb value. In fact, it's almost worth staying here for the buffet breakfast (included) and buffet dinner (extra) in the Central Cafe, which compares favourably with buffets we've had anywhere in the world (you can choose from about 150 dishes, most made while you wait). If you don't trust yourself with the buffet, the a la carte restaurants are equally good value and offer fine views to boot. Even the massage centre has a free buffet, and the rooftop pool is a great place to lay about sipping cocktails. As for the rooms, they're mostly big, more than comfortable and the panoramic views will impress. But they are let down by the slightly rough-around-the-edges fittings and just don't feel as luxurious as they could. Not five-star, but pretty reasonable for the money. If you want to be downtown, this isn't for you, but with regular shuttles the location really isn't a problem.
