If you want a party atmosphere geared for Baby Boomers, the Outrigger Waikiki is your ticket. It sits on the most popular stretch of Waikiki Beach, where you can see and be seen, day and night. While not the classiest or coolest place, it caters to tourists who believe it is.The 524-room chain hotel is pretty well-maintained, although it's no longer considered the best hotel in the Outrigger/Ohana group. While the hotel setup seems disjointed and the laughably outdated interior design won't win any prizes, you'll have no complaints about the beachfront location. Bear in mind that room prices reflect both view and size - so an ocean-view room is much larger than a city-view room. Thin walls mean you should be prepared for noise from your neighbors. In-room high-speed wired connections are free, as is lobby and poolside wi-fi. More freebies include local and toll-free phone calls, a daily newspaper, fitness center access, poolside scuba-diving clinics and daily cultural classes in lei-making, hula-dancing and ukulele-playing. The hotel's penthouse Waikiki Plantation Spa incorporates holistic Hawaiian therapies.

Duke's Waikiki, inside the hotel, is one of Waikiki's busiest hangouts. With young, tanned bar staff and tables sitting virtually on the beach, it's always amusing to watch the passing parade of revelers. On weekends, live shows by island musicians often spill onto the sand. Upstairs the Hula Grill has a tiki torch-lit verandah with ocean views and decent pupu (appetizer) platters.
