A six-storey hotel housing every imaginable amenity, including a spa and gym. All 242 rooms overlook a large atrium, and are tastefully designed in a muted version of the painted-on shutters and flamingo-pink porticoes of the surrounding building.

While the faux Renaissance styling is not the only anachronism here, there's no denying the slick self-confidence with which the entire operation is run. All 242 rooms overlook a large central atrium as vertiginous as it is vestigial (acrophobics should either stay away or stay in their rooms), and are tastefully designed in a muted version of the painted-on shutters and flamingo-pink porticoes of the surrounding building. This compact six-storey edifice houses every expected amenity, but is particularly indulgent when it comes to its conference facilities - perhaps the most trenchant example of the hotel's style. Named LIncontro and Il Paviglione, they cater for up to 200 delegates in a splendid manner.
