Nestled into Krakow's oldest street, just steps from Wawel Hill, the Copernicus Hotel is among the city's classiest places to stay. The highly rated hotel brilliantly combines its historic location and Renaissance architecture with contemporary design and modern luxuries.

The engraving over the medieval portal on ul Kononicza reads 1554. A fresco adorns the ceiling over the foyer, and the esteemed scientist himself (who studied at the nearby Jagellonian University) gazes down from his portrait hanging in the reception. Despite these ancient elements, the atrium-style lobby, from marble floors to glass ceiling, exudes a minimalist, modern flare. The hotel's 29 sumptuous rooms are worth every zloty (and they cost quite a few). Look for dark-wood beam ceilings and lots of plush velvet and raw silk. The larger rooms have gorgeous marble bathrooms, stocked with an assortment of scented bath oils and skin lotions to treat your tired body. While you might be tempted to spend all your time in the luxurious confines of your room, don't miss the opportunity to pop up to the rooftop bar (for guests only) for a nightcap and a glorious view of Wawel Castle.
