Lonely Planet review

When the owners offer everyone a free beer just for having a look at the rooms, you know you're onto a winner. And so it is that Bolivia's first genuine traveller-friendly hang out is a hostel - but not like we know it. Party on, dudes.

This hostel is a spin-off from Gravity Assisted Mountain Biking. As such, it's a hostel for travellers run by travellers with 12 rooms (34 beds) designed around the full traveller package. What sets this place apart are the communal areas on every floor: kitchen, DVD lounge, Internet and net telephony room, plus chill-out zone and the fact that, unlike most budget accommodation, large glass walls across all five levels give it a very light and airy feel. Each morning free pancakes are served up in the communal kitchen and a barbecue is cooked up every evening on the roof terrace. More importantly, a few nice touches, notably free hot water bottles and lockers under the beds to keep your backpack secure, show thought has gone into the design. Regular events keep the party spirit in full flow, as does the microbrewery downstairs.
