A gorgeous lakeside setting makes this tranquil oasis worth the long drive, especially if you're anxious to soak up the scenery of Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Star attractions Hoover Dam and the Valley of Fire State Park are not far from this full-service resort.

Many of the African-themed rooms at the four-star Hyatt have open-air balconies. One-bedroom Casbah suites have whirlpool tubs, fireplaces, stereos and kitchenettes. The pool boasts incredible views over Lake Las Vegas. Extras include a Moroccan-inspired spa, access to two championship golf courses and a summer series of free concerts. You can send kids with boundless energy off to Camp Hyatt's recreational programs (though a surcharge applies). So, what's not to love? A mandatory daily resort fee added to all quoted room rates covers only a few of the myriad recreational activities on offer. Unfortunately there are no gaming, dining or nightlife options apart from the hotel's own paltry offerings, and it's a long trip to the Strip.
