This upscale hostel has a piney cabin-in-the-woods feel in an urban location. It's not a true hostel because they don't put strangers together in their dorm rooms. But if you're in a group you're in luck because this place is sweet. There's one eight-bed and two six-bed dorm rooms. Outside the busy summer months, single travellers or pairs can often get an entire dorm room to themselves. Each dorm room has cable TV and clean comfortable beds. Towels, linens and shampoo are provided. The dorm rooms have two bathrooms for an 11:one bed-to-bathroom ratio. There are two doubles with private bathrooms that are attractively decorated with antique furnishings but they're a little pricey for Liepaja. Reception is the travel agency on the first floor and is open during office hours only, so book in advance.

There's nothing exciting happening here but you're close to the bus station and only about a kilometre from the centre. You're also well poised to venture into Karosta district to view the distinctive redbrick turn-of-the-century architecture and its forts receding into the sea. Karosta prison is a must-see.
