Housed within an elegant corner building originally built in 1907 as the offices of the Morning Post, the extremely stylish One Aldwych manages to pull off understated luxury effortlessly.

The attention to detail found here is usually only seen in small boutique hotels: underwater Mozart is funnelled into the swimming pool, raw silk curtains hang in every bedroom, and 350 original pieces of contemporary art are displayed throughout the hotel. Rooms feature clean white walls, fresh flowers and televisions in the bathrooms. Unlike other hotels where room price equals extra luxury trimmings, the only difference in the rooms here are their size. One of the most refreshing things about One Aldwych is the laid-back attitude of everyone from the doormen and reception staff to the guests themselves. Maybe it's thanks to the excellent cocktails served at the Lobby Bar. More likely it's due to the fact that the lobby is in fact a bar - a genius design idea that just hints at what treats might await you if you actually decide to spend the night here.
