A discreet address for the fashionable business traveller, the Halkin is an elegant, understated hotel with a reputation for impeccable service. With only 41 rooms and a litany of Armani-clad staff, regular Halkin guests can expect to be greeted by name as soon as they set foot in the marble-floored lobby.

The design is minimalist, but not in a way that has you battling with the remote control every time you want to dim the lights. There's lots of burlwood, marble and subtle colours, and each floor has its own theme associated with water, air, fire, earth and sky. Bedroom doors are hidden within curved wooden hallways, but the rooms are filled with natural light, cream walls, wood panelling and delicate fabrics. The corner rooms are particularly spacious with an attached bathroom nearly the same size as the room and bedrooms on the 5th floor have concave ceilings. Possibly one of the most thoughtful touches is the butler bell in every room. It's a wonder anyone staying here actually gets to work.
