Spanish Colonial architecture and delicious gossip rendezvous at this reinvented hotel, a Hollywood fixture since 1927. The handsome lobby retains the original Spanish flair, but rooms, pool and restaurants definitely have a 21st-century feel.

Admittedly, there are downsides to staying at this tumultuous Hollywood landmark: it's noisy, especially since the pool has become an A-list party scene; occasionally snobby service can be off-putting, too. But beautiful people and those who love them have something of an affair with the Roosevelt. It's stylish, with minimalist and atmospheric Asian-inspired room decor, Sferra linens, Dean & DeLuca goodies in the minibar, and the undeniable cachet of Old Hollywood glamor - Marilyn Monroe shot her first commercial here. The restaurants are just as alluring: Dakota is a swanky steakhouse just off the low-lit lobby, where reservations are essential for one of the sexy suede banquettes (sample the divine truffle mac 'n cheese); and the delectable build-your-own 25 Degrees is chic enough for rock stars.
