Spend some time at this deluxe establishment - formerly a pool hall - and you may just request the phone number of their interior designer. Surrounded by warm, rich tones, muted lighting and deliciously tactile fabrics, you'll find it hard to leave your room.

You'll need to push the front door hard to get in, but behind it you'll find deep leather armchairs to sink into at the ground-floor bar and renowned cuisine at the highly regarded restaurant, Felt. Make sure you muster some energy for a game of billiards, you'll be surrounded by a smattering of memorabilia from the building's past (which proves that themed hotels and sophistication are not mutually exclusive!). The only downside is the somewhat windswept location at the top of Flinders Street, but this is easy to overlook - particularly if you opt for a small deluxe room with Yarra and Botanic Garden views. If it's space, peace and quiet you're looking for then cosy up in a Junior Suite. With its top-notch facilities, smoothly seductive interior and staff devoid of attitude, the Lindrum is easily one of the city's finest boutique hotels.
