The cold foyer of Atlantis belies the minimalist-chic wand that has been waved over the rooms. Bringing some glitz to the city's increasingly popular western fringe, there are some superb views of the Telstra Dome, Westgate Bridge and Yarra River.

Train buffs will love watching the movement at Southern Cross station and management has thoughtfully provided chairs at corridor windows for those looking to settle in. The rooms are an ocean of vanilla-sponge beige with subtle lighting and soothing decor. They do the trick by keeping you comfy and close to the action. They're carbon copies of one another, although mattresses can be variable. They come in several standards but you're wise to upgrade from a standard and spend the extra 20.00 for gobsmacking views of Telstra Dome and the Docklands - try to get a one as high as possible in the building. Family rooms are not huge so if the kids need some space, look elsewhere.
