The Como is big, flashy and designed to impress. What choice does it have? It's in a plum location, right on the boundary where the flashy suburbs of Toorak and South Yarra meet, and right next door to the Channel 10 television studios, so it's fully obliged to pamper you like the celebrity you always knew you were.

The studios, suites and penthouses on offer are light-filled and spacious, mostly white with chocolate-coloured highlights and tasteful artwork on the walls. There are little touches of individuality: some suites have Japanese gardens, for example, which makes for a nice change from all the gleaming surfaces, angles and designer luxury. There are also rubber ducks in the bathrooms and duck motifs on the toilet paper, plus bath chains that spell out 'Como'. If that sort of thing impresses, you're in the right place. The Como is popular with celebrities, who, mindful of local water restrictions, like to fill the sauna with top-shelf champagne instead. There's a restaurant and rooftop pool on site, the latter being your best bet for catching a glimpse of a visiting tennis star.
