Clean, functional and well-located, the Bayview Eden manages to tick all boxes without excelling in any one area. It's a favourite with travelling suits though, so the hotel caters to people who spend few precious moments in their room.

If that's why you're here you'll be looked after rather than bowled over. The decor is business hotel circa 1990s with updated touches like flat-screen LCD TVs. Rooms range from standard Queens to Junior Suites, which contain glorious king-size beds and separate living areas. There's also a good spread of facilities - a restaurant, bar, gym and a big indoor pool. The location, right by beautiful Albert Park Lake, is possibly the hotel's best asset. Despite being unashamedly practical, this hotel does actually try to appeal to idle romantics looking for a weekend getaway to Melbourne by offering a swag of packages.
