For over a century the National has occupied this choice location at the foot of Tverskaya ul, opposite the Kremlin. The handsome building is virtually a museum from the early 20th century, with some rooms featuring frescoed ceilings and antique furnishings. And no other hotel in Moscow offers such glorious, unobstructed views of the Kremlin.

The building dates from 1903, so the rooms vary in size, layout and design. In general, standard rooms are smaller than what you might expect for the price. But you are paying for the old-fashioned ambience, which is preserved - even in the smallest rooms - with stencilling on the walls and medallions on the ceilings. With Le Meridien's name to vouch for it, you can expect exceptional service from staff at the National. The historic property boasts top-notch facilities, including a highly regarded Russian restaurant (also with a jaw-dropping view) and a less formal 'winter-garden' cafe. Both often host live performances of classical and folk music. Even the fitness centre offers an inspiring vista - of the Christ the Saviour Cathedral.
