Swedish built and Russian operated, this smallish hotel advertises 'European comfort and Russian hospitality.' It is indeed a delightful combination. Simple stylish rooms feature Scandinavian design, while the overall atmosphere is personal and inviting. The Swedes have left their mark all over this place. Decor is contemporary, accentuated by bold prints and modern art. The fitness centre includes both Finnish and Turkish saunas, which are open to all guests, while the suites have private saunas. The Swedes' efficient use of space is also noticeable: some of the single rooms (especially in the building's older wing) are small and somewhat cramped. In any case, the self-proclaimed 'Swedish corner of Moscow' is a long-standing favourite with business travellers, and it's easy to see why. Its location overlooking the Vodovotny Canal and the Moscow River is peaceful, yet convenient to Paveletskaya station and Domodedovo airport. Lovely views of Novospassky Monastery are a reminder that you are in Russia, not Sweden. And service - whether Russian or Swedish, it's hard to say - is always attentive and engaging.
