Well located for business travellers in the heart of Ruwi, this hotel has a legendary seafood night at its Green Mountain Restaurant, which compensates for the somewhat unglamorous ambience.

An unlikely first choice for holidaymakers looking for sun, sea and sand, the Sheraton is better situated for businesspeople who are looking for easy access to Muscat's commercial district. Built rather hastily a couple of decades ago, the hotel is looking rather tired but it does offer professional service at good value. Residents have access to the hotel's beach club in Shatti al-Qurm but the seven seaside rooms at the club fill up quickly. The restaurants offer competent fare but the drawcard of the hotel is without doubt the unparalleled seafood night on Wednesday evenings. Oysters prised open while you hang your coat, dishes of caviar, tasty fish soups and restrained slithers of sashimi compete with locally caught tuna steaks and sizzling lobster tails in an unerringly delicious culinary fanfare. It's best to book if you want to be sure of a table.
