Take one old steamship company skyscraper and convert it into a luxury hotel, the result is the Loews, which combines a boatload of amenities with a relaxed and unfussy style. The 285 rooms are larger than average and many have superb views.

How unfussy is Loews? It's one of the very major hotels in New Orleans that welcomes pets. Puppies, cats, dogs, birds or pretty much anything else that sits in a cage or walks on a leash can share a room with their human companions. The lobby is all glass over-looking Poydras St and the riverfront. The in-laid marble floors and engaging front desk mural lend a rich touch while the numerous staff members lend a hand. Rooms are decorated and furnished with understated yet elegant modernism. Functionality can be found at the large work desks, many set next to windows so you can ponder the horizon while you decide your future. There's an indoor lap pool and health centre plus a noted spa.
