Another over-the-top W conversion has taken an over-the-hill office building and turned it into a hotel tailor-made for hipsters. The 423 rooms scattered across the 23 floors shout 'trendy' at every turn. It's to cutting edge what the Olive Garden is to pasta. If you're of the right mindset, then enter with aplomb as the theatrical curtains at the entrance whoosh aside at your arrival. Otherwise you might just feel compelled to look behind the fabric for a wizard. The W offers a high level of service and likes to boast about getting you 'whatever, whenever' including 'the city's best beignet brought directly to your bath'; which begs the question, do you really want some toadie fetching you a lump of fried dough while you're starkers in the tub, or worse? The rooftop pool is the real deal however, even if management insists on calling it 'The Big Blue'. A strange but intriguing addition is the big suggestive bed placed right at the entrance - have some fun watching the reaction of baffled guests as they enter.
