Converted from a 21-story insurance building dating from 1911, the ultra-hip W at Union Sq (one of five Ws in Manhattan) is about location, looking good and spending a lot. All of the 270 rooms feature towering ceilings and top-of-the-line furnishings.Lots of sombre, soothing earth tones in the rooms, including framed leather headboards above the feather beds and Bliss body oils and lotions in the bathrooms. All rooms have framed full-size mirrors leaning against walls, plus high-speed internet and DVD players with the TVs. There are a few classes of standard rooms - the smallest ('Wonderful') - aren't appreciably smaller than the 'Spectacular'. Wheat grass lines the towering lobby.
