All the hotels in New York look up to the Mandarin. With suites exceeding 10,000.00 a night, the 251-room hotel (occupying the 35th to 54th floors of the 84-floor tower) offers what it should: tip-top opulence. The vaguely '40s-era styled rooms have interesting Asian highlights and all have full-on views from way above Central Park and the Midtown skyline.

Standard rooms get some of the same touches as the sprawling suites, such as plasma TVs and DVD players, Japanese writing box desks (with glass-top drawers), TV in the all-marble bathroom and chaises longues by the wall-size windows with incredible views of New York. The Taipan is the newest suite, with two bedrooms, an old liquor cabinet in the living room and remarkable angular rooms with views on all sides. The lobby lounge, just past a massive Dale Chihuly chandelier, faces the park. Asiate is a Japanese-French restaurant with a sunken seating area and nook-like booths offering stunning views of Central Park. For pampering, the spa has views of the Hudson and nice touches like a Chinese wedding bed in one of the seven private rooms as well as Tibetan bells signaling the end of treatments. Or one can swim laps in the fitness center's narrow pool.
